This local government introduces revolutionary changes in waste segregation


The new rules that have entered into force in the last days of September in Gdynia are aimed at adapting the waste management to ecological and EU requirements. The introduced changes can affect the daily habits of the inhabitants, but also on their wallets.

According to the local government portal, the new regulations introduce the obligation to throw kitchen bio -ways (e.g. food residues, dairy products or paper towels) into a brown container loose or in compostable bags. The use of plastic bags or garbage bags is prohibited. In buildings, residual waste will be collected once every two weeks.

In addition, it was decided that the collection of large -size waste requires prior notification – this can be done via the form on the website or by phone. In buildings for four premises, such waste will be collected every four weeks, and in larger buildings – once a week. As the local government portal explains, the Gdynia authorities explain the introduction of changes with the need to increase recycling indicators. “The new rules are aimed at improving the efficiency of waste management and adapting it to EU requirements,” explain officials.
