The Swedish Royal Academy of Sciences announced on Wednesday afternoon that the Nobel Prize for Chemistry was awarded in 2025 to researchers Susumu Kitagawa, Richard Robson and Omar M. Yaghi “for the development of organometallic structures.”

Last year the Nobel Chimie Prize was won by David Baker, Demis Hassabis and John Jumper for “Life building blocks”, proteins.
The Nobel Prize for Chemistry awarded in 2024, as well as the one for physics, aroused fierce controversy in the scientific community, some researchers accusing that the work of the laureates did not fall into the traditional sphere for these fields, but to that of computer science and science.
When the rest of the Nobel prizes of 2025 is announced
As every year, the Nobel Prize for Chemistry was the third announced in 2025.
On Monday, the Nobel Prize for Medicine was given to researchers Mary E. Brunkow, Fred Ramsdell and Shimon Sakaguchi for an important discovery related to T cells, the “safety guards” of the immune system.
On Tuesday, the Nobel Prize for Physics was awarded to researchers John Clarke, Michel Devoret and John Martinis for important discoveries in quantum physics
These will be followed by the announcement of the other prizes as follows:
- Nobel Prize for Literature – Thursday, October 9, at the earliest at 1:00 pm (14.00 Romanian time);
- Nobel Peace Prize – Friday, October 10, 11:00 am (12.00 Romanian time);
- The prize in economic sciences in the memory of Alfred Nobel – Monday, October 13, at the earliest at 11:45 (12.45 Romania time).
