Ukraine accelerates the production of “flamingo” missiles. Soviet turboculator engines reused, and carbon fuselage can be produced in just six hours

Ukraine intends to increase the production of its own long -range cruise missiles, nicknamed “flamingo” – weapons that, according to reports, can hit a few thousand kilometers away and which have probably been used in Russian territory. Fire Point Defense leadership says that it is currently making between two and three missiles a day; The plan is that by the end of the month the pace to climb to seven pieces a day.

Costs and comparisons
Such a rocket costs around $ 500,000. For context: an American Tomahawk is about four times more expensive – it has another profile: lower ray, lower useful load, but a higher probability of precision and interception resistance. Simple translated: “flamingo” seems built for effect, volume and autonomy, not for the fineness of the surgical blow.
Technical characteristics – what the producers say
Irina Tereh, general and technical director at Fire Point Defense, describes FP -5 as cruise missiles with a foss of up to 1,150 kg and a declared range of up to 3,000 km. Tereh did not give exact details about speed, but said that “flamingo” are faster than other Ukrainian missiles. For the construction, reused Soviet turboculator motors are used, and carbon fuselage can be produced in just six hours – data that suggests a combination of rapid industrial adaptation and resource economy.
Tactical advantages
Due to the large flight area and the continuous correction capacity of the trajectory, “flamingo” can greatly complicate the defensive plans of the opponent: a target can be “confused” by route changes and by the rocket's ability to approach unpredictable angles. In practical terms: a threat that is difficult to neutralize only by conventional coastal or zonal defense.
On August 30, missiles identified as “flamingo” hit a Russian border outpost and several FSB stars in occupied Crimea – concretely, a leisure base called “Ujut”, near the village of Voloshîne, transformed into a military point since 2017. The event seems to have been a successful operative test.
According to these results, President Volodîmîr Zelenski announced the intention that until December Ukraine will produce more missiles, and during the winter to start mass production. It is an ambitious promise, which puts on the table two realities: on the one hand, the industrial and logistics capacity of Ukraine to quickly scale an armament program; On the other hand, the risk of escalating operations and extending the conflict theater.
“Flamingo” are not just a weapon – it represents the signal of a strategy that relies on technical -industrial autonomy and the ability to design strength. For Moscow, their appearance in inventory changes the equation of strategic defense; For Kiev, they mean freedom of operational maneuver, but also the responsibility of escalation that the diplomatic and military land will pay.
