The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations (IGSU) sent a series of recommendations for the population on Monday evening, given the adverse weather that is announced in the coming days.

Meteorologists announce important quantitative rains, wind intensifications, temporarily visclated snow at altitudes of over 1,700 m and cold weather. These phenomena will affect much of the country, IGSU reminds on the Facebook page.

In this context, the authorities recommend:

  • Postponed outdoor activities! Working in open or height spaces becomes dangerous in bad weather;
  • Close all the windows and make sure that the outside objects are fixed to prevent possible accidents;
  • Avoid areas with trees, pillars, advertising panels or other structures that could be shot down;
  • Clean the ditches and gutters to allow the normal drainage of water from precipitation;
  • In the case of increasing the flows of some watercourses, do not try to cross them and do not approach their banks.

Also, at such times with intense rainfall including animals are exposed to major risks. In order to protect their life, the following measures are essential to be respected:

  • the release of dogs from chains or paddocks, to give them a chance of rescue;
  • the identification, beforehand, of the higher areas where the farm animals can be temporarily relocated and housed, safe;
  • Preparation of an emergency kit for pets, containing food, water, medicines and identification acts;
  • If the evacuation is not possible, release the animals! It is their only chance at life!

Any emergency situation can be related to the unique emergency number 112, IGSU says.
