Four tourists from Malta lost their lives in a terrible accident in the city of Senj, Croatia, after the car in which they were falling from a 70-meter rock directly into the sea.

The tragedy occurred in Senj, a coastal city with about 8,000 inhabitants. The car, a white Rover Rover leased by tourists at Zagreb airport, suddenly left the road, hit the protective pillars and collapsed into the sea.

A policeman, Jasmin Mujaković, on the spot, immediately jumped in the water in trying to save the passengers. “Tried several times, came to the surface, breathed again and sank again”, Said Adrian Karamba, representative of the Towing Service, according to the 24th publication.

Mujaković sank several times up to 16 meters deep, but could not open the car doors due to water pressure and impact damage.

Divers recovered victims' bodies

On the spot were Teams of divers, who managed to recover the bodies of the four tourists. “One body immediately came to the surface, the other three were removed from divers ”said Dario Cindrić, commander of the diving team from Gospić.

The victims were two couples from Malta, between the ages of 66 and 68. Malta Foreign Ministry has transmitted condolences to families and announced that it is in contact with Croatian authorities to provide assistance.

The causes of the accident, still unknown

Croatian authorities are investigating the exact circumstances of the tragedy. According to the first information, one of the hypotheses is that the driver could have undergone a driving, losing control over the vehicle.
