Tens of thousands of protesters went out in Tbilisi on Saturday, on the day of local elections to protest those who hold power in Georgia. The protesters marched to the Presidential Palace, where they tried to enter the premises. The law enforcement responded in force, according to the BBC and Reuters.
The protest took place the same day as the local elections. At the beginning of the evening, the multitude of protesters was in the center of Tbilisi, shaking the Georgian and EU flags.
“We are here to protect our democracy, which the Georgian dream is about to destroy,” said one of the protesters for AFP.

Then, the protest degenerated after the television station, favorable to the ruling party, published a survey at the exit from the ballot box that shows that the Georgian dream is the winner of the elections.
Shortly before closing the polling stations, a group of protesters tried to enter the presidential palace in the capital Tbilisi. The protesters set fire to the barricades near the Freedom Market, while the law enforcement intervened in the area.

One of the organizers previously asked the arrest of the leaders of the Georgian dream. He read a statement in which the employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs urged to obey the will of the people and to immediately arrest six personalities from the Georgian dream party.
During a press conference, the mayor of Tbilisi, Kakha Kaladze, a member of the Georgian dream party, described violent events as “a direct coup attempt”, promising an “adequate response” and swearing that those responsible will be held responsible.

According to the data of the central electoral commission, the Georgian dream obtained 80.7% of the votes at national level and is about to win the local elections today, October 4.
