A passenger train was hit in a Russian attack in the Sumî region of northern Ukraine, causing victims among passengers, regional governor Oleh Hryhorov said on Saturday, Reuters reports.
The Ukrainian official said that the Russian attack was targeting a train station and that a train heading for Kiev was hit.
The number of victims was not indicated, but the governor posted a photo of a passenger wagon and said that doctors and rescue teams work on the spot.
Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski condemned the “brutal attack.”
“So far, we know at least 30 victims. Preliminary reports indicate that both Ukrzaliznytsia staff (Ukraine's railways, no) and passengers were at the place of attack. The Russians could not know that they were hit civilians. And this is a terror that the world should not ignore. Stop, “wrote the leader from Kyiv on X.

Zelenski has urged allies who have so far shown support for Ukraine at the declarative level that they must also take practical measures.
“We have heard firm statements from Europe and America – and it's time to turn them into reality, along with everyone who refuses to accept crimes and terror as normal. The facade statements are not enough now. There is a need for firm actions,” Zelenski said.
Moscow has intensified its air attack campaign on Ukraine's railway infrastructure, hitting it almost every day in the last two months.
