In October, when the crop is removed and the cottage is empty, mice and fields go hunting. Their goal is the delicate bark of young apple trees, pears, cherries and drain. In one night, rodents can put the trunk in a circle, and the tree will die, even if it looked healthy.
You can save the garden without poison, without purchased ribbons and without unnecessary expenses. It is enough to tie the trunks with ordinary burlap or old tights, soaked in infusion of wormwood or tansy.
Take dry wormwood. Pour a handful of grass with a liter of boiling water, insist for two hours, strain. In this infusion, moisten strips of burlap or even old stockings. Wrap the barrel from the ground to the first skeletal branch, fixing the upper part with a twine.
The pungent smell of wormwood scares rodents better than any ultrasound. And dense fabric creates a physical barrier. Even if the mouse gets out, it will not reach the bark.
In the spring, when the danger passes, the strapping is simply removed and burned along with possible spores of fungi and pest eggs.
It is important to do this after the leaf fall, but before the snow. As soon as the earth has cooled down, and the trees “fell asleep”.
Question-answer:
- Is it possible to use other herbs instead of wormwood?
Top, an elderberry, garlic or onion husk are suitable. - Do I need to tie adult trees to protect against rodents?
Adult apple trees with a thick bark are not terrible. Protection is necessary primarily to seedlings and trees up to 5–7 years old.
