Cristian Diaconescu, disclosures about Octopus: “This octopus will be a protective wall for NATO states”

Presidential counselor Cristian Diaconescu spoke on Saturday, October 4, about the measures that NATO is preparing in the context of Russia's incursions into the airspace of the Member States. In his opinion, “Soft Power is no longer enough” and it is necessary to move to “Hot Power”, that is, to more determined actions of discouragement and defense.

Diaconescu thus revealed the project “Octopus”, which he described as a “octopus” which will work as a protective wall for NATO states against drones, airplanes and other challenges that could violate the sovereignty of Member States.

“So the soft power power is insufficient, it has to go to Hot Power. I give you, somewhat for the first time – the Octopus project will be called. This” octopus “will mean a protective wall of the North Atlantic states against the incursions of drones, airplanes, various elements that can generate security,” presidential ”, Diaconescu explained, in the show “In front of you”, from Digi24.

Asked about how Romania will react in the case of a direct violation of its air space, Cristian Diaconescu said that the decision belongs to the CSAT and will be proportional to the nature of the threat.

At the same time, he pointed out that Romania, with the longest border with Ukraine, is in a critical strategic position, and accidental incidents can no longer be invoked as a justification by the Russian Federation.

“At this moment, the Russian Federation must know that from the perspective of the border states, Poland, Finland are near Russia, and Romania has the longest border with Ukraine, so the accidental motivational aspect so far is no longer an argument,” Concluded Diaconescu.
