The EU focuses on safety. The “drone wall” will be built on the nato eastern flank

NATO eastern flank has been struggling with violations of the airspace by Russian drones for a long time. The “drone wall” project aims to increase the security of countries bordering Russia, such as Poland, Lithuania and Finland.

“This is a key step on the road to achieving joint defense readiness by 2030. This reflects the serious threat with which Eastern Flanki is currently struggling with,” said Antonio Costa, the head of the European Council, whose words are cited by Polsat News during a press conference. He also added that European leaders widely supported priority projects such as the drone wall and the Eastern Flanka Guard.
The project involves the creation of an advanced defense system based on reconnaissance drones, artificial intelligence and mobile antimiconic platforms. The system is to be supported by ground sensors and satellite supervision.

“It will not be a symbolic wall. This is a real wall. The technology is ready. Now we need political coordination at EU or NATO,” explained Martin Karkour from Quantum System, involved in a project, whose words are cited by Polsat News.
The EU Defense Commissioner Andrius Kubilius in an interview with PAP pointed out that, according to some experts, a significant part of the drone wall could be built in one year. “Importantly, some elements can arise even earlier. The biggest challenge I see is the detection of drones,” said Kubilius.

Six countries bordering Russia are involved in the construction of a drone wall: Norway, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland. Germany also expressed interest in joining the initiative. The first information about the project appeared in May last year, and now it takes on real shapes.
