End of tanker arrest of Boracay in France. It belongs to the “shadow fleet” of Russia

As France 24 writes, the Boracay unit was released from “detention center” on Thursday evening and allowed her to leave the port in Brest. The captain, after submitting explanations to the French services, returned on board, and the unit sailed towards the Suez Canal. However, in February the captain awaits the trial before the French court.
Reuters suggests that the unit belongs to the Russian “shadow fleet” because it is to transport crude oil from Russia to India. As we wrote on Thursday, the ship was detained by French services, because the crew initially provided conflicting information about the unit's state affiliation. Sailors could not indicate where it was registered and did not respond to the calls of the French services. As a result, the unit was taken over by the Navy frigate near the Ouessant Island.
The case became so serious that the stopping of the tanker was commented by Vladimir Putin. The Russian president called the French actions “an act of piracy”. At the same time, he stated that he was not sure if the arrested ship had any relationship with Russia.

Why does Russia have to use the “shadow fleet”?
In response to Russian aggression towards Ukraine, the states belonging to G7 and the European Union introduced sanctions that significantly hindered Moscow legal trade in raw materials. In response to these restrictions, Russia has created the so -called Shadow fleet – a network of ships under cheap, foreign flags that allow you to hide the actual origin of the transported goods.
