In a press conference held on Thursday, the Minister of Health, Alexandru Rogobete, requested the dismissal of Oana Puiu from the position of head of the ATI section. He asked the local authorities in Iași to dismiss Cătălina Ionescu and from the position of medical director. This is after the control carried out by the control body of the Minister of Health and the State Sanitary Inspection at the Iași Hospital, subordinated to the Iași County Council, showed that they were appointed without complying the law.

Oana Puiu is a primary doctor of anesthesia and intensive care. It was appointed as interim chief doctor of the ATI Clinical Section of the “Saint Maria” Hospital in Iași “with the non -observance of the provisions of Art. 185, paragraph (7) of Law no. 95/2006 on the reform in the field of health”, shows the Common Control Report of the Control Body of the Minister of Health and the State Inspection,
According to the law, being a clinical hospital, the doctor Oana Puiu should have been a university framework to be able to hold the position of section chief.
However, the control teams show that “no documents have been presented stating that Mrs. Puiu Oana is also a university teacher.”
Also, “the proposal of the University Senate (of medicine and pharmacy – n.red.) For the appointment of Dr. Oana Puiu for the position of interim chief clinical section,”, writes in the report.
The interim of the doctor Oana Puiu at the management of the ATI section was extended 3 times, it is shown in the report, which recommends that the appointment as head of the ATI section comply with the law.
Epidemiologist chief by transfer
As for Carmen Popescu, chief epidemiologist, she arrived at the “Sfânta Maria” Hospital in Iași by transfer from the “Socola” Psychiatry, in 2023.
She was named chief epidemiologist (coordinating doctor at the Service for the Prevention of Infections Ass from the Assistance) by a decision of the hospital manager, immediately after the transfer.
However, the control teams sent by the minister Alexandru Rogobete to the hospital in Iași, however, found that “no documents were presented regarding the support of any exam based on which Mrs. Popescu Carmen was promoted as a coordinating doctor at the Infections of Infects associated with the Assistance of the Emergency Clinic Hospital”.
The control body found that, in this way, the provisions of an order of the Minister of Health of 2011 were violated, which provides for the obligation to take an exam in such situations.
Manager moved to the position of medical director after being dismissed
Cătălina Ionescu, the interim manager of the Children's Hospital “Sfânta Maria” in Iași during the outbreak of infection with the Marcensens Serratia, was resigned on Monday, following a meeting attended by the head of the Iași County Council, Costel Alexe.
The hospital is subordinated to the local authorities, and the Minister of Health, Alexandru Rogobete, had requested the manager's resignation from the end of last week.
After being dismissed from the position of manager, Cătălina Ionescu was appointed medical director of the hospital.
Rogobete: “A bigger administrative chaos I have never seen”
Seven children under the age of one year, who were admitted to the intensive care section of the “Saint Maria” Hospital and have been infected with the Bacteria Marcecens, have died in recent weeks. The children also suffered from other serious conditions, and the exact causes of the deaths are to be established by forensic doctors.
The Minister of Health, Alexandru Rogobete, accused the fact that the outbreak of the Marcecens Serratia was reported late.
“I tell you honestly that a greater administrative and procedural chaos I have not seen in a hospital long ago. And I visited many hospitals and we have faced, lately, but also when I was secretary of state, with many such situations,” said Alexandru Rogobete on Sunday, at Antena 3, after going to Iasi on Saturday.
