The speech of US President Donald Trump and the head of the Pentagon, Pete Hegseth, at the unexpected meeting of US military leaders on Tuesdays were greeted with harsh critics, with praises from Republicans, but also with a discreet reaction from the US Army officials, writes Reuters.

Speaking in front of hundreds of American generals and admirals in a crowded auditorium in Quantico, Virginia, Hegseth told the commanders that they should resign if they do not support his agenda. The secretary of the defense also denounced the “fat generals”, saying that the troops should be in better physical form, while criticizing the initiatives on “diversity”.

Hegseth acted at an amazing speed to reshape the American Defense Department, holidays and high -ranking generals, in an attempt to implement Trump's national security agenda and eliminate the diversity initiatives.

The US Army should be apolitical, loyal to the US Constitution and independent of any party or political movement.

During his over an hour speech, which approached all the subjects, from customs taxes to nuclear weapons, Trump has defended many of his policies and said, in a shocking remark, that military troops should use their conduct in US cities as “training land for our army.”

The governor of California, Gavin Newsom, a democrat whose name was conveyed as a possible candidate for presidency in 2028, said that the White House leader's speech should terrify people.

“To declare war on the cities of our nation and to use our troops as political pawns is what the dictators do. This man is concerned with nothing but his own EGO and his own power,” wrote Newsom, in a message published on the social network X.

Trump has announced plans to send troops from the National Guard to Portland, Oregon, and has already sent the guard and Marini in active service to Los Angeles, despite the protests of local officials.

The governor of Illinois, JB Pritzker, a democrat whose state expects to receive troops of the National Guard, also had a harsh reaction.

“Our troops and our nation are worth more than behaving like a small tyrant,” he said.

“Dangerous leadership demonstration”

The democratic leader of the Armed Force Committee, Senator Jack Reed, denounced the speech of the US president as “an expensive and dangerous demonstration of leadership from the Trump Administration.”

Reuters notes that it is not clear how much the event cost. It was necessary for the military leaders to arrive from all over the world, with the plane, before an imminent “shutdown”) of the federal government.

During the military meeting, there were few visible reactions from the generals and admirals who participated in the event – they were largely silent.

High -rank US military officials have left the room after Trump's speech and many will rush to return to their posts.

So far, there have been no significant reactions from the officials in uniform.

But some Republican parliamentarians had a positive opinion.

The Republican Congressman August Pfluger said Hegseth's speech was “full of inspiration” and encouraged all Americans to listen to him.

Senator Lindsey Graham, a long -term ally of Trump, said the US president has brought the army with a well -deserved praise.

“It is a mouthful of fresh air to see a supreme commander expressing his endless pride in our army and being strong without apologizing,” Graham said.
