Schlotterbeck, 25, has been linked with several teams recently as his current contract expires in the summer of 2027. Dortmund are hoping the centre-back will sign a new deal, but according to German media, several clubs in Europe are interested in his services.

Borussia Dortmund head coach Niko Kovac has admitted he is not sure he will be able to prevent his star player Nico Schlotterbeck from leaving the club.

Schlotterbeck, wanted by Liverpool and Bayern Munich

Nico Schlotterbeck is currently one of Borussia Dortmund's most important players and his solid performances have sparked interest from Europe's biggest clubs. Arch-rivals Bayern Munich would love to have him in their ranks, while Liverpool hope the German defender's arrival will solve their current defensive woes.

Ahead of Saturday's Bundesliga match against Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund manager Niko Kovac admitted he may not be able to do anything about a future transfer.

“I don't know how much I can influence things – apart from showing my appreciation. I do that every day. He knows what he means to us. But he also knows what he gets from the club. I'm optimistic, but time will tell. I'm not a fortune teller. Let's wait and see,” said the Dortmund coach, according to sport.bild.de.

In addition to its rival in the championship, Liverpool would also be interested in the services of the German defender. The “Cormorants” are going through a very difficult time in the Premier League, as well as in the Champions League, and the team's defense has made many mistakes this season. Nico Schlotterbeck is seen as a solution, with Frenchman Ibrahima Konate likely to leave the Anfield squad.
