Three alleged HAMAS members, suspected of having purchased weapons for “deadly attacks against Israeli or Jewish institutions in Germany”, were arrested in Berlin on Wednesday, as the German Federal Prosecutor's Office announced, informs News.ro citing France Presse.
During the arrest of those that the Prosecutor's Office considers “foreign operators” of Hamas, “an AK-47 assault rifle, several guns and a large amount of ammunition were discovered,” says the Prosecutor's Office.
The prosecutor's office identifies the three men as Abed of G. and Ahmad I., two “German citizens”, as well as Wael FM, “born in Lebanon”. Contacted by AFP, the prosecutor's office indicated that he could not yet establish his nationality with certainty.
According to the Prosecutor's Office, they dedicated themselves “at least in the summer of 2025” to the purchase of “firearms and ammunition” in Germany for the Palestinian Islamist Movement.
They will be presented on Thursday to an training judge who will decide on the requests for preventive arrest issued by the Prosecutor's Office.
The number of anti -Semitic incidents worldwide has reached a “historical maximum”, according to an international report
The attack launched by Hamas against Israel on October 7, 2023, which triggered the war, caused the death of 1,219 persons, mostly civilians, according to a balance sheet based on official data.
The Israeli reprisal offensive caused 66,148 dead in Gaza, most civilians, according to the figures provided by the Ministry of Health led by Hamas, considered reliable by the UN.
The conflict in the Middle East has a special resonance in Germany, due to the responsibility of the country in the Holocaust. Berlin is still one of Israel's greatest supporters today, and Chancellor Friedrich Merz has recently said, very excited, that he wants to do “everything in his power to allow Jews to live, enjoy and study without fear throughout Germany.”
Germany has not joined the Western countries who recently recognized the Palestinian state.
