– I can say that I was surprised, because I personally considered the conviction of Mr. Florentin Pera and Bogdan Burcea to continue this work just before the World Championship. I enjoyed this proposal, which is not easy and from the point of view of the time, as well as the distrust of some in this appointment. It is normal for each man to expose his opinion, he must be respected, and through what we will make their confidence. We will see if we will succeed.

Ovidiu Mihăilă, about the negotiations with FRH: “I had an honest discussion with the president”

– How did the discussion with President FRH go?
– The discussion with the president of the federation was an honest one, in which we analyzed the situation. Being part of the Technical Department of FIH, as the head coach of the youth national, it was considered that time is short until the first major competition and we must keep in the sea, the line on which the reconstruction of the national senior team began, with any improvements if necessary.. The discussion went professionally and correctly, we told our opinions and opinions vis-à-vis the situation and future. It is not easy to enter such a story, at a time as this, but with the total confidence in the players, I hope to do, to do beautiful things.

– How would you characterize the team of Romania?
– Characterization of the national team I could do in the next period, after the first meeting with the players. It is certainly the highest level that the players and coaches can reach, and each one must be aware of this and respect it.

– Did you get along with the president quickly? Are you an expensive coach?
– I cannot say that I understood myself quickly, because I personally considered it important, the total attempt to return the two coaches (Pera and Burcea), but this was not possible. I'm not a fan of many discussions. It is important to work and see this in the field. The players are the mirror of what is being worked on and we hope to see a beautiful, metaphorically speaking face. Expensive coach? Never in my life I have never put the financial part in the foreground. I considered it appropriate to stay close to my family, which is the only truly support, and then this sport offered me a lot of beautiful things and I considered it just respecting work, I can give back what handbal offered me.. Each time I was a financially balanced man, even though we can sometimes deserve to be more rewarded.

– On what period will you be the Romanian coach?
– My contract is based on everything we can achieve together in the next period. At this level, your work and results can certainly give you the opportunity to discuss the future. (Depending on the results of the World Championship, it will be able to be a coach until 2028).

Ovidiu Mihăilă's goal: places 1-10 to cm

– What goals were you imposed and what staff will you have?
– When we talk about goals at the level of the national team, the most important thing is the results and then the game itself, which will give you confidence and the chance to win games. (Objective at CM – places 1-10). I will try to keep the whole staff that was with me at the youth national (Alin Oprescu – second coach and Daniel Apostu – coach with the goalkeepers), in which I have great confidence. We will see to what extent this possibility will be granted to me.

– Will you remain a coach at SCM Craiova?
– It is the beginning of the championship and even if I did not go through a good period in terms of the game, it would not be correct and there was no variant, to give up the club team, where there is a contract paraphrased before this option comes.

– Do you have emotions for the first meeting of the lot that will be in Craiova right?
– Certainly every beginning gives you a state of emotion and stress, but I know most of the girls and I have all the confidence that the first meeting will have a positive and pleasant feedback, based on respect, socialization and serious involvement throughout the preparation process.

Ovidiu Mihăilă would have wanted another 3-4 players in the lot! Chose continuity

– The federation announced the enlarged lot by 35 players for the World Championship. Are you satisfied with the selection?
– The 35 player lot is transmitted. Maybe I would have liked to try discussions with another 3 – 4 players, which I will do anyway, even if they can no longer go to World Cup. We hope that all girls will be healthy, I can give them the chance to earn the right to be part of the national team of Romania.

– Do you think that Romania with your coach will meet its goals?
– It is difficult to anticipate if Romania can achieve its objectives with me a selector. Certainly the opinions are divided, I respect them and I hope I can continue the work of the two coaches who were, because they have done proper work, with progress and I trust that the girls will give everything to succeed in the World Championship. It will not be easy, but when it is hard, not many people crowd, and when it is good, the desire of all the growth is definitely. I think we must trust the potential of Romanian handball, both at the level of players and coaches. Everything is just about respect and support from all people in handball. Especially now, when we go through delicate moments.

– What will you bring new and tactical new?
– I can't say I will bring something new at this time, because the time is very short. It is very important to manage the health and emotional states of the players, but also to maintain a methodical line that does not very much upset the athletes. In conclusion, I will go on continuity and professional balance.

Cristina Laslo returns to national

– Will you call Cristina Laslo for the matches with Norway and Poland in the Euro Cup?
– Cristina Laslo is definitely a player who no longer needs any presentation. I met her as a special person and who can bring with many other girls a value of the team. She will be in the lot for the two games but has a little medical problem and we will see if she can play.
