In the parliamentary elections in the Republic of Moldova, over 1.6 million citizens voted. If, especially in the diaspora, the polling stations arranged for the Bessarabians to exercise their right to vote have been taken especially by young people, in many localities in the Republic of Moldova the atmosphere of the elections was one. In smaller cities or through villages, the streets were almost deserted or with very few passers -by engaged in daily weekend activities. Many young people preferred the exits to the terrace with friends or walks. The most conscientious were the 50 -year -old citizens, who came to vote in the morning. Later, the young people went to the ballot box, in the afternoon.

The reporter Adevărul, located in the Republic of Moldova on the day of the vote, spoke several Moldovans from the central area of the country and near Romania. Most have shown their support for the pro-European direction of the Republic of Moldova. Another priority, in their vision, is the relationship with Romania. There are also those who believe that Moldova needs neutrality at foreign policy level to survive and develop, that is, good relations with both the states of the European Union and those in Eastern Europe, implicitly with the Russian Federation.

“Many still hope they will eat bread from Soviet times.”

In Strășeni, a small town located about 20 kilometers from Chisinau, the capital of the Republic of Moldova, the elections went quiet, in a general seed. People have walked, voted and either went back to the park or on the terrace or at home. Most of the interviewees say that the only way for the Republic of Moldova is the connection with the European Union. “Our people are kept hard. When it seems ready, it is dark at the end of the tunnel, someone appears like Maia Sandu who lights up our light. I am definitely for the European Union, it is not discussed.”says a local. Another man, whom I found near the City Hall, confesses the same, the approach to the European Union is the only alternative. “Have you seen roads outside, what does it look like? That means EU, civilization”confesses the local.

Supporters of the pro-European road of the Republic of Moldova, in Strășeni there are many of those who have passed 50-60 years. They say that they have come to not understand young people who want a proximity to Russia instead of the European Union and even a socialist regime. “We influenced us communist education. We lived and were educated in the spirit of socialism, communism. I am surprised that today's youth that was born in the years of independence of the Republic of Moldova, we do not know how many of them still want to eat that bread from the Soviet times, of 16 Copeici.confesses another local who was walking around the district council.

“The relationship with Romania must be friendship”

Many Bessarabians, both from Strășeni and other areas of the center of the Republic of Moldova, I believe that relations with Romania are very important. However, any Unionist thought is excluded, until a common threat. “The relationship with Romania must be friendship. But for now each with his household. But if we see that he is Bâja, maystates another local from Strășeni. “If we talk about Romania and the Republic of Moldova, I do not think there are premises now for the union. Although we want this. Thank you to Romania for always supporting us and I hope that in the future we will be together.”completes another Bessarabian from Strășeni.

“Let us be independent as in the time of Stephen the Great”

Locals in rural areas, including those in the border area, say that it is good to approach the European Union, but under conditions of neutrality in terms of foreign policy. In short, the Republic of Moldova to maintain a friendship relationship with the west and east states. “The Republic of Moldova must be neutral. And politicians to respect the will of the people voting”says a local.

A neighbor adds convinced: “We must be in peace with everyone. We must not wake up in the enemy, neither to the west nor to the east. That the first bombs fall over us. Others dream of the glory of medieval Moldova. “We must be independent and powerful as in the time of Stephen the Great”says another woman. Not far away, at a terrace store, two men confirm the ones said by women, quietly serving a beer.
