Zelanski asks the USA for Tomahawk missiles

In an interview with Axios, Zelanski admitted that the purpose of the new weapon would be pressure on Russian president Vladimir Putin to proceed to peace conversations. However, the Ukrainian leader did not specify what kind of weaponing he turned to Trump. Speaking of the possible US intervention, Zelanski said that “Trump told Trump what Ukraine needs is only one thing.”
In the next fragment of the conversation, he emphasized that such armament would change the dynamics of conversations with Putin. “By the way, we really need it, but this does not mean that we will use it right away. However, I think that the very presence of this weapon will cause additional pressure on Putin” – said the President of Ukraine.
This information was confirmed by representatives of the Ukrainian authorities, according to which the meeting focused, among others on conversations about advanced Tomahawk rocket systems. Similar information was given yesterday by the British “Telegraph”.
History of Ukrainian efforts about Tomahawka
According to Axios, Ukrainians have already tried to obtain these missiles several times as part of talks with the US over the last year. However, this weapon remained beyond the reach of Ukraine – even despite the previous consent of Trump's administration to sell this system to NATO allies.
Tomahawk, one of the most modern systems in the world, is characterized by high precision and range of about 1600 km, which is a significant advantage, for example, over Ukrainian Atacms missiles. Axios points out that so far Trump has not agreed to sell this weapon Ukraine, despite the pressure from the authorities of this country.
In the face of intensified military operations on the front, Zelanski pointed to the need for support in the neutralization of Russian air defense systems. As he noted, while drones allow Ukrainians to precisely strokes in the depths of Russian territory, in the case of purposes with particularly intensive defense, more advanced solutions are needed, including maneuvering missiles.
