UPDATE 15:45 »Bogdan Mara came in crutches to draw lots

Bogdan Mara, the sports director of CFR Cluj, came in crutches to attend the draw of the Betano Romanian Cup groups. The railway official was ironically asked by Cristian Săpunaru: “What are you doing?” Did you fall to the fish? “.

Three former Romanian international, participants in the 2016 European Championship, will make the draw. These are Ciprian Tătărușanu, Cristian Săpunaru and Gabriel Torje.

In order to avoid the emergence of new confusion regarding the draw for the Romanian Cup groups, the Romanian Football Federation called the team of operators 7 hours before the event, for rehearsals, according to GSP sources. “Everyone comes earlier, we practice so we don't laugh,” it would have been the urge for officials and the company that makes the online transmission.

Where did it all start from? Pulling lots for matches in the cup play-off has aroused a lot of suspicions. Made by Gabriel Bodescu, deputy secretary general of the Federation, and Mihai Andrieș, the representative of the Competitions Department within the FRF, the draw was vehemently controversial.

In the first ballot box there were 8 balls, related to the 8 teams from the Superliga entrance to that phase of the competition, and in the other ballot box were crowded, with the names of the other 24 teams.

Bodescu, responsible for the ballot of 24, first scored even the last ball he had put in the bowl. He put his right hand on the ball, passed it to the left, mimicked the mixing of the other balls, but later extracted the ball with which it remained in contact.

The ball contained the name of the second division Corvin Hunedoara, which dropped in the play-off with the Constanta Lighthouse. Ianis Zicu's team then obtained the qualification, score 1-0.

FRF officials were then accused of unclean intentions by several supporters, and now the Federation has tried by any means to avoid new suspicions.

How did the ballot boxes look like to draw lots

  • Urna 2: ACS Petrol 52, UTA Arad, Constanța Lighthouse, Afc Botoșani, Sepsi OSK Sf. Gheorghe, FC Arges champions, AFK Csikszereda Miercurea Ciuc, Metaloglobus București
