Russia could withdraw from the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (rest) of the OSCE, Russian President Vladimir Putin threatened on a meeting with the head of the Central Election Commission (CEC) in the Russian Federation, Ella Pamfilova.

“I will address this topic with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the parliamentarians of both cameras of the Federal Legislature,” said Putin, according to the Russian Tass agency, taken over by EFE and Agerpres.

Thus, Putin supported the head of the Russian Electoral Commission in his approach, the author of this initiative, after Russian observers were not invited to the legislative elections in the Republic of Moldova, whose authorities accuse Moscow.

“You are right, this situation is absurd, because we offer all the opportunities, and on the other side the same thing happens. We will analyze what we can do in this regard,” he said.

Rest observers, who have always criticized the lack of transparency of electoral processes in Russia, no longer cover the parliamentary elections in the 2016 Russian Federation due to the restrictions imposed by the Russian authorities.

“Why do we need them? What do we pay for a contribution? Does not defend our rights at all,” said Pamfilova, who qualified as a “absolutely closed and undemocratic organization.”

“With the hybrid war triggered by the Collective West, the situation was worse.”

In this regard, the head of the Commission for International Affairs of State Duma (lower Chamber of Russian Parliament), Leonid Sluțki, appreciated that such a decision was long awaited.

“With the aggravation of the geopolitical antagonism and the hybrid war triggered by the Collective West, the situation (…) was discredited. And not once,” said Leonid Sluțki.

Due to the refusal of the Republic of Moldova to accept Russian electoral observers, the Moscow Foreign Ministry has requested this week to rule.

For his part, Pamfilova presented to Putin, in Kremlin, a report on the municipal and regional elections carried out in September, during which over 1,000 candidates who participated in the military campaign in Ukraine were elected among others.

Regarding the legislative elections of 2026, she announced that 12 matches will be able to participate without having to gather signatures, the only opposition party being the liberal Iabloko.

In recent years, the Russian Ministry of Justice has rejected all the opposition attempts to the Kremlin to register political parties.

Vladimir Putin, who was re -elected in 2024 for a new term of six years, stressed that, under the current conditions, “the political stability, the solidity of our political system and the internal political situation are two, three times more important.”
