Filming, massively distributed on social networks, show how the hotel glass walls give up under the pressure of the waves. Tourists in the lobby were taken by surprise and fell to the ground under the water streams.

The hotel leadership transmitted for CNN that, despite the moments of panic, “No victims were registered and the authorities immediately mobilized resources for intervention”.

Massive evacuations in southern China

The storm caused chaos in the region. In Macao, the streets were flooded to the belt, and in Shenzhen, Tuesday night, massive waves and wind gusts up to 181 km/h hit the city.

Nearly 2 million people were evacuated from southern China, an extremely densely populated area, after Ragasa had already brought deadly floods to Taiwan.

On Wednesday, the Tyfun paralyzed Hong Kong and a large part of southern China, after passing through the Philippines and Taiwan. On Thursday morning, he was relegated to severe tropical storm level, but left behind landslides, floods and huge waves in the province of Guangdong, where there are cities like Shenzhen and Guangzhou.

Dramatic situation in Taiwan

In Taiwan, the balance is tragic: at least 14 people died and 31 are missing data, after a natural dam consisting of the July landslides collapsed. The collapse released 68 million tonnes of water over Guangfu.

Whole bridges were taken by the water, the cars were swept by torrents, and the inhabitants were forced to take refuge on the upper floors of the houses. The authorities had warned for weeks that the dam could give up.

Damage and financial support

In southern China, trains were suspended, schools and factories remained closed, and the central government allocated $ 49 million to support the affected areas.

According to meteorologists, the Taifun Ragasa will continue to travel to the west and are to dissipate on Friday, above Vietnam.
