Spain sends a military ship after the humanitarian fleet that is heading to Gaza has announced that it has been attacked with drones. Italy has already run a frigate

Spain will send a military ship to support the humanitarian fleet for Gaza, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced on Wednesday, after the organizers said several of their boats were targeted by drones off the coasts of Greece, AFP notes.
“We are worried and that is why we will send a ship, so that, if necessary, our citizens can be saved and brought back to Spain,” Sánchez said in a press conference in New York, specifying that the ship will leave on Thursday.
Earlier Wednesday, Italy announced that it had sent a frigate to support the fleet.

The pro-Palestinian activists from the fleet that are heading towards the Gaza Strip said they were targeted on Tuesday night by “more drones”, which caused explosions somewhere off the coast of Greece.
Flotila wants to reach Gaza to transport humanitarian aid and “to break the Israeli block”, after two attempts blocked by Israel in June and July.
The fleet that is heading towards Gaza has already claimed that it was the target of drone attacks near Tunisia on September 9th.
The attack on Tuesday night to Wednesday took place while Flotila sail to South-West Crete, according to its representatives, quoted by AFP.
“Several drones, unidentified objects thrown, bruised communications and explosions heard from several ships,” accused a statement of Global Sumud Flotilla.
“At present, we are direct witnesses to these psychological operations, but we will not be intimidated,” the statement said.
Composed of 51 ships, Flotila has a pro-Palestinian militants from 45 countries, and wants to reach Gaza to deliver humanitarian aid.
