According to the Presidential Administration, the agenda includes the establishment of objectives that require protection measures against threats represented by unanswered aircraft and defining or approving interventions against airlines that use the national airspace.
The technical requirements of the equipment and information procedures in such cases, as well as other topical topics in the field of national security, will also be analyzed.
The Minister of Defense, Ionuț Mosteanu, gave assurances that Romania has “all the procedures and capabilities” to react to air incursions, including in the case of drones. He recalled the incident on September 13, when two F-16 aircraft were raised from the ground to intercept a Russian drone entered in the Romanian airspace, stressing that the approval of the drones belongs to the military commander of the operation.
Moșteanu reiterated then that Romania firmly condemns the challenges from Russia, remains in permanent coordination with NATO allies and strengthens its defense capabilities, including through the initiative “Eastern Sentry” Announced by the Secretary General of the Alliance, Mark Rutte.
