Where did the phrase “Roger That” come from
The phrase “Roger That” comes from the aviation language and military radio, and its history is associated with the phonetic alphabet.
In the 1920s and 1930s, military aviation (especially American) began to use radio stations.
Instead of saying “R” (from “Received”, or “received”), a phonetic alphabet began to be used so that the letters were well understood by radio noise.
Then the letter R She was coded with a word Roger (Today, “Romeo” is used in the NATO-phonetic alphabet).
The addition of “that” meant confirmation of the acceptance of a specific message: “Roger That” means “I accepted this message”.
