Actress Claudia Cardinale, on her real name Claude Joséphine Rose Cardinale, died at the age of 87.
Cardinals, a monument of the Cinematography of the 1960s, died on Tuesday evening “surrounded by her children” in Nemours, near Paris, where she lived, her agent announced during the evening.
Born in Tunis from Sicilian parents who emigrated during the British protectorate, Claudia Cardinale worked with some of the greatest directors of her time, including Luchino Visconti, Federico Fellini, Richard Brooks, Henri Verneuil and Sergio Leone. “The image of a free and inspired woman leaves us, both in personal and professional life,” said her agent, Laurent Savry.
Throughout his long career, started in the mid-1950s, he has played in very diverse genres. From Italian comedies to spaghetti western, from dramas to historical films and Hollywood-style productions, he also worked in the field of music, theater and television.
Cardinale made a name in a world dominated by Sophia Loren and Gina Lollobrigida, distinguishing itself through a more subtle and modern acting style, away from the caricatures of the time. The international press called it “the most beautiful woman in the world” in the 1960s, the decade in which she conquered the general public, becoming a symbol of a changing ittal, between the emancipation of women and the cultural revolution, writes the newspaper La Stampa.

He has played in over 150 films, some of which are considered landmarks in art cinema. He has achieved a great success in abroad, being appreciated by critics and working with some of the most famous international actors: John Wayne, Sean Connery, William Holden, Henry Fonda, Eli Wallach, Orson Welles, Peter Finch, Anthony Quinn, Jack Palance, David Niven, Lautrece Olivier, Burt Lancaster, Burt Lancaster Jason Robards and many others.
“Claudina” was the name that both Luchino Visconti and Federico Fellini, the great masters of the Italian cinema, who had chosen it for their two 1963 masterpieces, the leopard, with Alain Delon and Burt Lancaster, and 8½, with Marcelo Mastroianni.
Claudia Cardinale had two children.
