New housing estate-Nowy Wełnowiec-will be built in the north of the city, on a 30-hectare plot between ul. Wojciech Korfantego and Kondatorka – in a place where Silesia Metallurgic Works operated until the end of the 20th century. The estate is to be “eco” at every step. The buildings will be powered by renewable energy and heat sources. So -called The effect of heat islands will be eliminated by green roofs and terraces.

Cars underground

According to the investor – Capital Park – the first central waste management system and rainwater retention will also be built at the estate. In addition to greenery, which will fill the space between buildings and take about 30 percent. The area, the center of the estate will be the 4-hectare park, a public park.

Car traffic in the new Wełnowiec will be moved underground, where a parking system will be created on several floors. There will be a place on the surface exclusively for pedestrians and cyclists.

Although in Nowy Wełnowiec there will be primarily apartments – The blocks will occupy half the area of ​​the estate – There will also be dorms or service premises.

Construction is expected to start next year. The revitalization of areas after a former steelworks is not a completely new idea. The investor showed the first plans five years ago. In the meantime, Katowice councilors adopted a new spatial development plan for this part of the city, which took into account the possibility of building apartments.
