“Olympiad of high schools”, the new “Daciada” resumed in a municipality in Oltenia. Thousands of students entered the competition
A competition between high school students started 19 years ago and interrupted after more than 10 editions was resumed this year. Hundreds of students competed, for almost three weeks, on three sections of competition.
The “High School Olympics” was the main concern, in the first two weeks of school, for thousands of students from Slatina. The competition reminds of the old “Daciaada” organized in communism, through which the sport at school level was promoted, but not only, by organizing sports competitions for all age categories.
The competition in the residence of Olt county, in the form in which it is currently held, was initiated in 2006 by the Slatina City Hall, at the first edition, aligning at the beginning nine high schools. In the meantime, only seven, two-the Industrial High School of Construction-Montaj and the “Carol I” Agricultural College were left-merging with other high schools, and the number of tests and the period decreased.
The students competed this year, in addition to the sports events, within two other sections: artistic and volunteering. After almost two weeks of adrenaline, on Saturday, September 20, 2025, the final ranking was presented.

The “High School Olympiad” engaged hundreds of athletes, most amateurs, students of the seven high schools in the city: “Radu Greceanu” National College, “Ion Minulescu” National College, Theoretical High School “Nicolae Titulescu”, “PS Aurelian” Economic High School, High School with Sports Program, Technological High School, “Technological High School”.

The sports competition started on September 10, the students confronting in competitions: football (boys), basketball (boys), table tennis (boys and girls), handball (girls), volleyball, cross (mixed and female, teachers and students).

In addition, students with artistic talent were able to show their skills in the graffiti tests, musical interpretation, dance and miss and mystery.
A special section, and this preserved from the beginning of the “high school Olympics”, was the volunteer, each school having the opportunity to enroll with a soul project (a humanitarian action, an environmental action, an environmental protection, etc.) held in the municipality of Slatina.

Each sample earned could bring the team to a maximum of 10 points (each point value 100 lei), which gathered at the final score, following the ranking being designated the winning high school.
Although the sports events took place over the nearly two weeks, “played” for the first three places until the last moment of the gala evening, the artistic tests being judged on Saturday, when the competitors also went on stage. And the young artists who carried out the works of graffiti in the latest park in the city also found out who climbs on the podium of the respective sample.

The end of the contest made the students from the “Ion Minulescu” National College, the winners of the 2025 edition of the “High School Olympics”. On the second place, with equal score, were the “Radu Greceanu” National College and the High School with Sports Program, and on the third place-Theoretical High School “Nicolae Titulescu”.
The winners of places I, II and III within each sample will be rewarded with money prizes, and each high school will be settled with 100,000 lei.
Old rules, refresh dissatisfaction
Sports tests have gathered most of the tears. It has fought with embarrassment for each point, it was a competition between the cheerleading troops, the galleries did everything they can to support their favorites under fair-play conditions (the prohibition to address their offensive words is stipulated in the regulation). Some matches have been balanced, in others there was a lot of contribution to the students who play performance. This is, in fact, the dissatisfaction expressed by several teachers of physical education and sports, who claim that the best would be for the legitimate athletes to be forbidden to compete in the tests for which they are preparing with a coach, performing at sports clubs.

“Making performance, they certainly have an advantage in front of the other colleagues who are preparing for the high school Olympiad with us, the sports teachers. Beyond that, it is difficult for you to tell if it is the merit of the high school to which he teaches or his coach from the club. And we have the same problem at the School Sport Olympiad (OSS), which is a national competition, in the calendar of the Ministry of Education.

For so long we ask that the legitimates are not allowed to compete with the unlawful students, because we, the sports teachers, on the other hand, do not have the opportunity to show what we can really do. Let us not take the right of anyone to compete, but not in the evidence for which they train every day, throughout the year ”is the dissatisfaction of certain teachers.
How the old “high school Olympics” was structured
The first edition of the “High School Olympiad” was organized in Slatina in 2006, resisting for 11 editions, before this competition there was another competition between high school students, the parade of high schools. The sports tests from the first editions of the high school Olympiad were: chess (boys and girls), athletics (speed, resistance, pole, boys and girls), football, field tennis (boys and girls), table tennis (boys and girls), basketball (boys). However, the competition also had competition tests on educational disciplines (Romanian language, geography and history, foreign languages, physics, computer chemistry). The artistic samples were similar to the present.

In addition, there was a test that causes high school students to carry out an prevention campaign (on themes such as drug addiction, smoking and excessive alcohol consumption, school dropout, violence in society, denial of moral, civic, etc.) in the city, and another test in which they were demonstrated for the practical skills ( and repairs within the educational unit).

Another test that is not found today was the organization of an educational offers fair (the sample was designed as a good educational marketing exercise made by students and teachers in order to attract the eighth-grade graduates).

For the high school students the Slatina City Hall also organizes a sports competition, but also a general culture competition, Disney Cup, the winners of the latter being awarded with a trip to Disneyland Paris.
