The derby of France, Marseille – PSG, scheduled on Sunday evening, from 9:45 pm, was postponed! The match in stage 5 of Ligue 1 will no longer be played on the initial date due to the weather conditions.
The prefect of the Department of Bouches-Du-Rhône announced the formalization of the postponement of the match due to the torrential rains forecast in Marseille.
The derby between Marseille and PSG has been postponed
“Le Classique”, the derby between Marseille and PSG, will not be played on Sunday evening, September 21, due to weather conditions.
“We decided to suspend the match as there is a major risk of heavy rains and urban floods in the area of the Velodrome stadium and in the surroundings,” said Georges-François Leclerc, according to RMC Sport.
Olympique Marseille's arena, which has a capacity of about 65,000 seats, was to be full, like every derby. The authorities preferred to avoid the risks under the conditions in which the region is under the orange code for rains, floods and storms.
According to the France press, the Bouches-Du-Rhone department, along with five other regions, were placed under orange code warning.
Precipitation accumulations between 70 and 90 mm are expected, with tips that can reach even 120 mm in a few hours, which could cause significant floods in Marisilia.
The critical interale will be between the local hours 19:00 and 22:00, exactly during the period when the match was scheduled.
France has taken similar measures recently. Earlier this month, the start of the school year was postponed for a day due to heavy rain forecasts.
PSG is an authoritarian leader in Ligue 1, with maximum points obtained in the first 4 stages. Nantes, Angers, Toulouse and Lens were the victims of the en-Titre champion so far.
On the other hand, Marseille won the two matches played at home, with Lorient and Paris FC, but lost the away matches, with Rennes and Lyon.
Both played in the middle of this week in the Champions League. Marseille gave up with Real Madrid, score 1-2, after two punishment strikes transformed by Kylian Mbappe. On the other hand, PSG was imposed on its own ground, 4-0 with Atalanta.
