The US Army announced on Friday that it had a raid in Syria, after which an important leader of the Islamic State group was killed, Reuters notes.

Also on Friday, the Iraqi Terrorism Fighting Service said that a high-ranking leader of the organization was eliminated in a Security operation in Syria, carried out in coordination with the international coalition led by the US.

According to the US Army statement, Omar Abdul Qader was killed in Raid, who “was looking to attack the United States.” The document does not specify whether there were civil victims during the operation.

The militant, known as “Abdul Rahman al-Halabi”, was the head of the external operations and the security structures of the group, the Iraqi service said.

He was accused of coordinating attacks in several countries, including the attack on the Iran Embassy in Lebanon, as well as planning other operations in Europe and the United States, ultimately defiled by information actions, according to the same source.

The US Central Command has held several blows against the leaders of the Islamic State in Syria. US officials have warned that the group aims to resume their activity in the country after the fall of President Syrian Bashar al-Assad in December last year.
