According to the Portuguese daily Correio da Manha, center -right, prime minister of Portugal Luís Montenegro, before he made a decision, consulted with the president and parliament. This, as the press emphasizes, ends with a nearly 15-year debate in the Portuguese parliament, initiated in 2011 by leftist groups.
Portugal's declaration appeared a few days after the publication of the UN Commission report, in which it was recognized that Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip bear the features of genocide. International recognition of the statehood of Palestine
