The Kraków Airport airport has announced a tender for the expansion of the passenger terminal in the western part of the airport, which will be the first stage of infrastructure expansion for passenger traffic. After all stages, the port's capacity will be over 19 million people a year.

The president of the Krakow airport Łukasz Strutyński assessed during the Friday briefing that the expansion of the terminal on the west side will be the largest investment in the history of Kraków Airport.
He explained that the investment aims to adapt the infrastructure to the increase in passenger traffic, whose dynamics is much greater than expected in the adopted Earlier Masterplan. It assumed the expansion of the terminal to service 12 million passengers a year.
Instead of 12 million passengers, there will be as much as 19 million
To gain time – explained Strutyński – the new assumptions of the facility expanding are based on already obtained administrative decisions, including environmental decisions and building permit, but provide for the target increase in the capacity of the facility to the level of over 19 million passengers a year in 2031.
The president emphasized that the expansion would take place “under the passenger movement” and when maintaining the current pace of its growth.
– To be possible, we must use the infrastructure we have, hence the idea to use the current Cargo terminal, where temporary service stations will be created. This will allow the airport to grow in the next 2-3 years-announced the president of the airport.
Construction will be carried out in stages
The Vice President of Kraków Airport Janusz Kardasiński announced that the reconstruction of the passenger terminal will be implemented modularly in three stages, of which the first will include the expansion of the facility towards the west (T6).
According to the plans, the western part will have 44.5 thousand. sq m of surface and four floors, including one underground. The facility will have 11 so -called gate and three towers with sleeves for aircraft. After its completion, the airport's capacity will increase to about 16 million passengers.
As planned In November, the best offer should be chosenand in December a contract concluded with the selected general contractor for construction works. The facility should be ready until 2029.
After completing this module, a second module will be created from the east – until 2031. Ultimately, the new passenger terminal is to have 120 thousand. sq m of area and capacity of 19 million passengers a year. As Strutyński reserved, the new terminal was designed so that it even met the traffic to 2035.
Kraków Airport is the second airport in Poland in terms of the number of passengers served and the largest regional port. Last year, nearly 11.1 million people used it, and this year forecasts to reach 13 million passengers. In the current summer schedule, the airport has 160 connections to 114 cities in 35 countries, offered by 28 carriers. (PAP)
