On August 10, The New York Times wrote that Kozak, who openly spoke out against a full-linker war in Ukraine, practically lost his powers because of his position. According to the interlocutors of the publication, Kozak disappointed Putin, because he made it clear that he considered the invasion of Ukraine a mistake.
Already after the outbreak of a full -scale war, the Kozak privately stated that he discouraged Putin from this, the article said. According to sources, Kozak told colleagues that he submitted Putin a proposal to terminate hostilities and conduct peace negotiations.
The American Institute for the Study of the War believes that the resignation of Kozak and a number of statements of the Kremlin officials indicate Putin’s commitment and his environment to continue the war in Ukraine and maximalist military demands.
