The Egyptian authorities announced on Thursday that they had arrested four suspects, including a Cairo Museum restaurant, for theft of a 3,000-year-old bracelet, sold for 3,400 euros and then melted in a workshop in the Egyptian capital, writes AFP.

The gold bracelet, adorned with a bead of Lapis-Lazuli, given during the reign of Amenemope, Pharaoh of the 21st dynasty (1070-945 BC). The jewelry disappeared from the secure safe of the restoration laboratory within the Egyptian museum, according to the Ministry of Culture.
According to the local press, the artifact was to be transported to Rome at the end of October, to be exposed in an exhibition entitled “Treasures of Pharaohs”.
The investigation showed that the precious bracelet was stolen from the museum, sold to different intermediaries and “melted together with other jewelry”, according to a statement of the Ministry of Interior.
In the video recordings made public by the authorities you can see how the bracelet is changed in a shop on a pile of bacnote, then cut into two buyer. In these quite unclear images, it seems that the bracelet does not have the bead that appeared in the photograph broadcast the day before the authorities.
According to the Ministry of Interior, the restoration expert “managed to steal the bracelet while working in the museum”, after which he contacted a jeweler, who sold it to the owner of an orphanous workshop for 180,000 Egyptian pounds (about 3,100 euros). He resold it to a gold melting for 194,000 Egyptian pounds (approximately 3,400 euros).
The four suspects were arrested and recognized their facts, and the money was confiscated, according to the Egyptian ministry.
This incident occurs shortly before the official inauguration of the new Great Egyptian museum, provided for November 1.
