Donald Trump and XI Jinping's telephone conversation. Two main topics


This is the third direct telephone conversation between the 11th and Trump from the beginning of the second term of the President of the United States.

In a recent interview with Fox News television, Trump expressed the hope that thanks to the conversation there would be a “final” decision of Tiktok, and added that his relations with China “are very good.”

Earlier, the American president has repeatedly postponed the introduction of a ban for the activities of the US application, which was to force her Chinese company-maternal company to sell American operations for national security reasons. It is considered to take over the Tiktok in the USA by a consortium with the participation of, among others Oracle. Trump has extended the date for finalizing the transaction by Bytedance until December 16.

Customs war

The talks are also aimed at finding a compromise in terms of duties. As a result of the customs war started by Trump, both sides threatened to impose over 100 % customs rates on each other. In May, after the first direct negotiations in Geneva, the countries concluded a temporary and shaky truce, according to which the rate on goods from China fell to 30 percent, and the Chinese rate on goods from the USA – up to 10 percent. An agreement on the lower duties expires in November.

The telephone meeting takes place during geopolitical tensions. After a peak organized by China, with the participation of XI and leaders of Russia and India, Trump wrote on his social platform: “Please give my hottest greetings to Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong UNI, when you conspire America against the United States.”
