On Monday, September 15, the Senate plenary is convened for the debate and voting of a simple motion against the Minister of Education, Daniel David, informs the website of the Legislative Forum.
The document, entitled “Instead of instruction and excellence, humility and training”, which harshly criticizes the Government policies in the field of education, was submitted in plenary, last week, by the leader of the Senatorial Group, Petrișor Peiu and is supported by 38 senators of the opposition: 28 from gold, 6.
The education crisis
The authors of the motion state that Romania is facing a serious educational crisis, caused by the measures implemented by the current leadership of the ministry and demand, among other things, the resignation of Minister Daniel David.
“Romania is in front of an unprecedented crisis in the field of education, and under the leadership of Minister Daniel David, the national education system has undergone measures of brutal austerity, applied by lie, manipulation and contempt for the real needs of students, parents and teachers” It is stated in the quoted document, in which the signatories also accuse the fact that the new educational policies are the result of a harmful political alliance.
“Education has become the illegitimate child of the government, the fruit of a harmful political alliance, which pushes Romania to a bleak future.”says Senator Aur Petrișor Piuiu.
One of the most criticized measures is the adoption of Law 141/2025 by assuming government liability, without a debate in Parliament, of which the opposition believes to be “the most brutal attack on education in recent years.”
Effects on teachers and students
According to the motion, education unions estimate that more than 15,000 positions would be abolished, by not raising the contracts of the substitute teachers and those of low time.
In this context, gold believes that this measure is actually a “Masked dismissal of tens of thousands of dedicated specialists, with didactic degrees and years.”
Moreover, the economic efficiency of these discounts is challenged: “The reason invoked for the measures adopted – the reduction of the deficit – bring, according to the Fiscal Council, an economy of 0.02% of GDP, ie 378 million lei.”
“Increases the risk of school dropout”
The initiators of the motion also draw an alarm signal on the situation of the students in the rural area, which, due to school combinations, must travel greater distances to school, which “increases the risk of school dropout”, but also on reducing the stock exchange fund, which affects equitable access to education.
Motions
In this context, in the simple motion directed against Minister Daniel David: it is requested:
* Immediate cancellation of measures aimed at restructuring pre -university and university education;
* Restoration of the respectable status of the teachers;
* Stopping the so-called “ideological skids” in the school syllabus;
* allocation of at least 6% of GDP for education;
* initiating a real dialogue with all parties involved in the education system.
The opposition requires the resignation of the Minister of Education
At the end of the motion, the initiators demand the resignation of Minister Daniel David, whom he considers a necessary gesture for the recredibility of the institution.
“The renunciation of Mr. Daniel David to the position of Minister of Education and Research. It would be an act of political hygiene, a gesture of respect for teachers, students and the future of this country. (…) Through this motion we want to draw a national alarm signal: Education is in danger! Romania, for the future of the country, for our honor as parliamentarians ”, it is specified in the text of the document.
