New military alliance? Egypt offers “Arabic NATO”

The idea of the Arabic pact modeled on NATO was again presented by the Egyptian president Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi. According to The Arab News, Kair counts on the support of other leaders at the upcoming Arab-Islamic summit in Dosze.
The initiative gained a pace after recent events, such as an Israeli attack on Hamas leaders in Qatar. According to the assumptions, the participation of individual countries in the alliance would be proportional to their population and military potential. For example, Egypt, as one of the project leaders, intends to spend about 20 thousand. soldiers for the needs of common forces.

Morocco and Algeria key for the Arab Military Alliance
According to the Lebanese daily “Al-Akhbar”, the president of Egypt is particularly striving for the support of Morocco and Algeria-two African military powers that have been in conflict for years. The government in Cairo sees their commitment as crucial for building an effective coalition as part of a new alliance.
Egypt, which intends to play a major role in these common armed forces, wants to guarantee the highest command position, and to propose another in the hierarchy Saudi Arabia or other state of the Persian Gulf.
Although the initiative is still at the stage of talks, it signals Egypt's pursuit of playing a leading role in the security system in the Arab world. It is also another attempt to unite this region in the face of Israel's aggressive policy.
If Egypt managed to convince other Arab countries to abandon disputes and create a common military block, it would potentially become a powerful supra -regional force. Only three Arab countries of North Africa – Algeria, Egypt and Morocco – have a total of over 2.5 million soldiers.
In the latest ranking combining armored forces, Global Firepower Index 2025, Egypt took sixth place in the world with 3620 tanks, including over a thousand American M1 Abrams. Algeria came in 11th place with 1485 tanks, consisting mainly of Russian and Chinese equipment. Morocco took 18th position with 903 tanks.
