Incident with a Russian drone in Tulcea. Moșteanu: “The planes saw it. They were very close to drop it”

The Minister of Defense, Ionuţ Măriţă, said, at Antena 3, that the F-16 planes that were sent for the interception of the drone that entered the national airspace on Saturday, were on the point of Doborî, but it changed its direction to Ukraine. He added that Sunday will be helicopters in that area to see if the drone had fallen on the territory of Romania, although the information at this time is that it has traveled to Ukraine.

Ionuţ Măriţă stated that the drone that entered the Romanian airspace was seen on the radars, and the planes sent to its interception had the legal right to break it.

“We have challenges about every week”

“The planes rose and saw it. They were very close to dropping it, the drone flying very down, at one point he left for Ukraine. These are the information we have at this time. The drone came out of the airspace back to Ukraine and I want to clarify a detail. From a legal point of view, Law 73, The aerial space, so the F-16 pilots also had this approval from the Command of the Fatable Forces, then transmitted to the Air Components, they could take these drones, ”said Mureanu.

The minister said that it was a single drone that entered our airspace, but the Romanian planes or NATO allies are frequently raised from the ground for similar missions

“We have challenges from Russia about every week. We give communications every time we see them and they are on the border of Romania. More and more come, there are drones at the border of Romania, on the northern border of Dobrogea, about every week we have the airplanes in the air, either ours, or of the German partners who have an airway.

The area will be overdue with helicopters in search of drone

Explaining the reasons why they were lifted from the ground in two waves, the first with two F-16, the second with two Eurofighter of Luftwaffe, the minister said it was just to replace a patrol with another, not a second drone that entered Romania.

“They have practically replaced them in the aerial space because the planes have a limited flight period and when the F-16 approaches the completion of this period, the Eurofighters of the German Allies were raised,” explained Mori.

Their missions will be followed on Sunday by the surrounding area with helicopters. “We are waiting for the final report and we will have it in the hours that follows from those who have been directly involved in this operation. Tomorrow there will be helicopters in that area to see if there are traces or if they had fallen, but all the information at the moment is that the drone went out into the Ukrainian air space,” the Minister of Defense said.

Regarding the procedure for breaking the aircraft entering the Romanian airspace, the minister explained that the details will be established in the CSAT.

“The procedures will go to the next CSAT, we have taken all the approvals in these summer months, they are related to the intervention procedures in the case of pilot aircraft. At this moment, for engaging against pilot aircraft we work practically on the old law, where the minister has to approve for employment. And I have a phone call on me with an application, Explained Ionuţ Mărieanu.

Two alerts in Tulcea in one day

A Russian drone entered the airspace of Romania on Saturday afternoon during a Russian attack on the Ukrainian infrastructure of the Danube. The authorities issued a RO-Alert message for the northern area of Tulcea county.

“A short time ago, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations sent a RO-Alert message to the northern area of Tulcea county, whereby citizens were informed that there is the possibility of falling objects from the air space and were urged to adopt protective measures.

“Two F-16 fighter aircraft from the 86 Air Base Fetești took off on Saturday, September 13, at 18:05, to monitor the air situation on the border with Ukraine, as a result of Russian air attacks on the Ukrainian infrastructure,” the MApN said.

“At 18:12 the RO-Allert message was issued for the population in the north of Tulcea county, and at 18:23 the F-16 aircraft detected a drone in the national airspace, which they followed up to about 20 kilometers southwest of Chilia Veche, when it disappeared from the radar,” according to the MAPN.

“The drone has not evolved above the inhabited areas and did not represent an imminent danger to the security of the population. At the time of issuing the statement, the situation is monitored by the radar systems of the MApN and the aircraft in the air,” the ministry reports.

At no two hours, a new RO-allert was issued in the area. This time, two Eurofighter Typhoon at the Kogălniceanu base were raised in the air to monitor the situation.

Zelenski's warning

Volodimir Zelenski reacted on Saturday, in an online post, to the information in Romania on the Russian drone that violated the country's airspace, during a Russian attack on the Danube Ukrainian infrastructure. The President of Ukraine states that such an incident “cannot be coincidence or a mistake”, as “the Russian army knows exactly where its drones are heading and how long they can operate in the air.” “Their routes are always calculated,” the leader from Kiev insisted.

“Today, Romania has mobilized fighter jets because of a Russian drone that entered its air space. According to the current data, the drone entered about 10 kilometers in the Romanian territory and operated in the NATO airspace for about 50 minutes. Also today, Poland has been a military man in the threat of Ruse.
