Greece started the match better, taking advantage of a good game by the star Giannis Fretokoumpo and the solid phases of his teammates who understood their roles. Finland's coach asked for a rest time and asked the players why they are so excited, but his directions did not have the desired effect.
Throughout the match, the Nordics were in a tracking race, never failing to balance the match. MIIKA MUURINEN, the 18-year-old from Finland, and Lauri Markkanen, the superstar of the band, tried to set the tone from an offensive point of view but, at the break, the score was 48-34 for Greece.
After returning from the locker rooms, The Greeks began to feel the “smell” of the bronze and rushed some actions, to the dissatisfaction of the Legendary Spanoulis. Finland took advantage and reduced the difference.

The Finns did not give up the fight, began to play without pressure and punished the mistakes of the opponents. Instead, they did not concentrate as much in the attack, and the advantage became smaller.
5 seconds before the end, at the score of 90-87 for Greece, Elias Valtonen received 3 free throws, having the chance of equal. The Finnish turned the first 2 strokes, but missed the 3rd, and Mikael Jantunen failed to score after the offensive recovery.
Failed, Headuounmpo scored both free and the small final ended with a score of 92-89 for Greece, which obtained the first medal at Eurobasket in 16 years.
