The Spanish Supreme Court judge decided on Tuesday to initiate proceedings against the prosecutor general Alvaro Garcia Ortiz regarding the inclination of confidential information from the investigation. This is the first trial of the Prosecutor General in the history of democratic Spain.

Garcia Ortiz is alleged to be disclosed in March last year. confidential information from the investigation against the accused of tax fraud Alberto Gonzalez Amador, partner of the head of the Madrid community and opposition policy Isabel Diaz Ayuso.

Judge Angel Luis Hurtado, who issued a decision to initiate proceedings, rejected the application for suspension of the Prosecutor General in his duties. However, Garcia Ortiz must pay a deposit of 150,000. euro for any financial obligations in the event of a possible conviction.

During the Tuesday press conference, the spokeswoman of the government Pilar Alegria repeated that the office of Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez maintains “full trust” in the Prosecutor General.

The People's Party (PP), the largest opposition grouping, again called on Tuesday to resign Garcia Ortiz in connection with the court's decision.

PP leader Alberto Nunez Feijoo was not present at the opening of the court year on Friday in the Supreme Court, where Garcia Ortiz gave a speech in the presence of King Filip VI.
