In Stronie Śląskie, the Morawka River falls into Biała Lądecka. On September 15, 2024, the water from a dry reservoir in Morawka in Stronie Śląskie was blurred on the dam and a giant wave poured into the city. The element destroyed houses at Nadbrzeżna Street, took the recently built police station and a commercial pavilion remembering the previous age.

The first obstacle to the water entering the city were the skatepark, stadium and the baroque chapel of St. Onufry. When the water dropped, fragments of the sports infrastructure could be found on the buildings, the stadium was completely destroyed, and in the wall of the chapel a huge breach was formed.

The mayor of the city Dariusz Dzień, remembering the events of a year ago, compared the flood wave up, which, moving, takes everything he encounters on his way.

The water poured from the tank and slowly blurred the shaft. There was no violent impact, but the masses of the water were enormous. We managed to make the last connection with information to the staroste and voivode that the earth shaft was blurred, later the communication disappeared, we were completely cut off. When the water dropped, the city looked as if it had passed through it, everything fallen, agitated, it was unbelievable – said the mayor, remembering the most difficult moments of September 15 last year.

The flood was completely destroyed by 25 buildings in the Śląskie commune. They were demolished. Damaged many residential buildings. It destroyed roads and a bridge, sewage and water supply networks.

Today, walking through the center of Stronie Śląski, you can hear the roar of excavators and trucks transporting building materials. Work is underway on the Morawka trough, pavements and road fragments are being rebuilt. There are scaffolding next to some houses, workers put plasters. Other buildings are bare, brick walls are still drying.

Chromiec emphasized that the inhabitants began to rebuild their homes only in the spring, because in winter it is impossible to dry the flooded rooms well.

– The reconstruction is still ongoing, and in the center we have a large construction site. We play Nadbrzeżna Street, we are renovating other streets, a temporary bridge was created, a new bridge is being built – the mayor enumerated.

In close proximity to the Moravka River, there are apartment blocks of our cooperative cooperatives. During the flood, 700 people were evacuated from them, who lived in a hotel in Sienna until the beginning of December. The mayor of Chromiec emphasized that thanks to the activities of the cooperative's authorities, it was possible to quickly carry out the necessary renovations so that tenants could return to their apartments.

In addition to state aid, Chromiec also points to volunteers and people from all over Poland who were involved in helping flood victims.

– Until now, we are operating with the Tratwa Association, which, in addition to direct help for residents, runs meetings with residents, young people to distract them from the worries of everyday life related to the removal of the effects of floods – said the mayor.

The city received help from the budgets of various departments. The stadium, an indoor swimming pool, school and kindergarten building will be rebuilt – today children are studying in a container building of the school that soldiers built. The reconstruction of the chapel of St. Onufry. The construction of houses for flood victims is coming to an end, which were financed from the collection conducted as part of the “Entrepreneurs for flood victims”. This is a total of 28 semi -detached housing.
