The hundreds of South Korean workers arrested on September 4 during an anti-immigration operation in the United States will be released at 6:00 GMT, and Seoul will repatriate them, South Korean President Lee Jae Myung said on Thursday, AFP notes.
US President Donald Trump has finally given up deporting his 475 qualified workers arrested at a Hyundai-LG battery factory, but Seoul decided to repatriate them because they are “shocking,” said the South Korean Foreign Ministry.
The raid of the Department of Homeland Security, DHS) and the wave of arrest have shocked the public opinion in South Korea, an important ally of the United States, in the context of efforts to complete a bilateral commercial agreement in July.
