The Romanian Government came on Tuesday morning with official details after Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan told TVR on Monday that the retirement age should be increased to all categories.

“The Government does not consider and does not discuss at this time the possibility of increasing the standard retirement age,” the Government spokesman, Ioana Dogioiu said on the press group on Tuesday morning.

“In the TVR interview, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan referred exclusively to the age of retirement of categories with special status in this regard, so to eliminate exceptions from standard age,” said the government spokesman.

What did Ilie Bolojan say about retirement age

Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan told TVR on Monday that Romania must increase the retirement age in all categories, including for special pensions, to avoid the system collapse over the next 5-10 years.

“From my point of view, we are in the situation where we need more people in the labor market, in the real labor market. And for this, we like it, that we do not like it, we have to increase the retirement age, so that, in the 50-65 years, the population that is trapped in the real economy is to be in a bigger weight, it has no more to be,”

Bolojan explained that if the retirement age does not increase, in general, in all categories, including in the special pension area, it will be “in a situation of non -ustanability of the pension system”, over five or ten years.

“Think about that our generations, which are 400,000-500,000 people in a year, will retire over ten years, and in the back there are generations of 200,000, and, practically, if we do not increase the retirement age, in general, in all categories, including in the special pension area, we will arrive in an unsustainability of the pension system, We, moving some loans in the future or not taking some measures to restore things in a normal structure, ”said Ilie Bolojan.
