The head of the government claims to be “An act of responsibility to start school so that we offer our children decent conditions of education.”
Bolojan said that the teaching norm was increased by two hours and is at the European level, as in France and Spain.
“We had to take budget correction measures. This measure was required (…) The teaching norm was increased by two hours. This means that those who teach 18 hours will teach 20 hours. Which had some effects in the education system. We have 230,000 positions that are occupied by approximately 160,000 holders, The average European level is the norm in countries such as France, Spain, and in Germany the Norma reaches up to 25 hours.explained Prime Minister Bolojan.
The head of the government admits that teachers' salaries are small.
“The level of pay in education is not the one I want, but this is what Romania can in the present situation. The payroll level remained the same, the salaries were not reduced. I had discussions with the education unions. What I decided is the result of an analysis of the activity in education and whatever the number of hours would be at the level of the European Union” said Bolojan.
The measures taken in education will lead to an economy of about 10% of the education budget, the prime minister said.
“Certainly, it represents about 10 % of the education budget. (…) we will give figures exactly after a month”, Bolojan said.
