The European Union imposes a billion penalty on Google. The company announces an appeal

The European Commission has announced that Google is using its position to promote its own advertising exchanges at the expense of competition. In the opinion of EU officials, such practices undermine fair competition and limit the choice of consumers.

Commissioner for Competition Protection, Teresa Ribera, emphasized in a statement that in such cases the intervention of public institutions is necessary.

“True freedom means equal opportunities, where everyone competes on equal conditions, and citizens have the real right of choice,” says Ribera.

Google criticizes the EU decision

Google does not agree with the decision. The company announced that it would appeal.
