Experts said How to distinguish natural cheese from a cheese product with vegetable fats. The recommendations are shared by the press service of the regional Rospotrebnadzor.

The main differences lie in the composition. The presence in the list of “replacements of dairy fat”, emulsifiers and seals is a sure sign that you are not cheese.

Plant analogues are added to reduce cost. Such a replacement requires the addition of emulsifiers for uniformity, seals for the desired consistency and dyes to give the product the usual yellow shade.

According to the law, the manufacturer is obliged to indicate on the label the name “cheese product” if plant fats are used in the composition.

Although the price of surrogate is often lower than two to five times, experts warn that this is not always a reliable guideline, since unscrupulous sellers can sell it at the price of real cheese.

The department noted that vegetable fats are often used in the production of melted products. Therefore, consumers who want to be sure of quality are recommended to always read the composition on the package before buying.
