President of Serbia Igra with fire. He is closer to Moscow and Beijing than to the EU

President Serbia Aleksandar Vucić ends today a visit to China, during which he met with Putin and other politicians, also from Europe, taking a number of conversations. Aleksandar Mitić, a researcher at the Institute of International Policy and Economy in Belgrade, expects Brussels to react to this visit, but – as he says – probably not as sharp as the one from May 9, after the president's departure to Moscow on the occasion of victory day.
He said Mityić in an interview with Euronews.
Branka Latinović, a former diplomat, claims that This visit cannot bring Serbia No positive benefits in strengthening its position in foreign policy, and especially her way to membership in the EUwhich, he claims, should be a priority.
– emphasizes Latinović.
“Serbia will know how to get out of this defensive hand”
Latinović claims that the quiet “transformation of Western Balkans” is currently underway: the pursuit of Kosovo's bond with NATO, as well as a tendency to give West Balkans an increasing role in the strategic plans of the US and alliance, especially towards the Black Sea and strengthening the facilities of this area.
Serbia's participation in celebrations like the one in Beijing, where leaders are present mainly from the so -called strategic south cannot be favorable. This opens the possibility that our region will be exposed to the conflict of the interests of great powers in this part of the Balkans, and thus in Europe. This is the worst item in which the country can be found, and it should be avoided – believes Latinović.
In turn, Milan Bozinović, a former diplomat, says that “presence in Beijing is a positive symbol.”
– This is undoubtedly a very good direction. Of course, in the West it is perceived negatively, but I think Serbia will know how to get out of it with a defensive hand – says Bozinović.
Trump: they are conspiracy against America
A significant part of Vucia's visit to Beijing was devoted to the topic of economic cooperation with China. Yesterday the Serbian president met with representatives of 14 companies from which Belgrade expects great benefits. Last year, China was the largest single investor in Serbia and joined the country with funds exceeding EUR billion (approx. PLN 4.25 billion).
However, the political dimension cannot be ignored: The visit takes place when the West and the United States mobilize against China. US President Donald Trump is obsessed with China and could not refrain from commenting when the army was marching through Beijing. And in a sharp tone – he suggested that China and their allies were “consisting” against Washington.
– wrote Trump.
Russian companies are welcome in Serbia
An important part of Vucia's visit was the meeting with the President of China XI Jinping. Two days earlier he also met Putin. A number of topics were discussed – from energy, gas and oil, through infrastructure talks to bilateral relations between Serbia and Russia.
After the meeting, Putin announced that Russia applies “respectfully to the independent orientation of Serbia under the leadership of Vucia” and that it would strive to deepen economic cooperation between Russia and Serbia.
He also announced an important event. By the end of this year, a meeting of the joint economic committee will take place in Belgrade.
– We will be able to talk in more detail about economic cooperation in connection with the direction of Serbia Republic. I am glad that we can also list views on regional issues and that we can do it in person – said Putin.
Vucii noted that Energy is a key field, especially when it comes to gas supplies. He added that all Russian companies that “want to participate in infrastructure projects, including RZD [rosyjskie koleje — red.] And Rosatom “, they are welcome in Serbia.
– said Vucić.
“We are now participating in something that will go down in history”
Vucić went to China to take part in the great military parade on the occasion of the victory day, to which the leaders of 26 countries were invited. Bozinović estimates that the statements that they issued and Putin issued after the meeting were expected and confirmed good relations, despite the challenges arising from time to time.
– Cooperation and mutual respect are stable, and Putin said clearly and clearly that there is nothing to speculate on this topic. Serbia knows its possibilities and boundaries, but I dare to say that we are now participating in something that will go down in history. This will open the possibilities of cooperation with these two countries at an even higher level – says Bozinović.

Vucii met with the President of China during a visit to Beijing in October 2023, when 18 contracts were signed, including a free trade agreement between Serbia and China.
XI Jinping visited Serbia in May 2024, and earlier in 2016, when the President of China for the first time in 32 years made a visit to Serbia and a strategic partnership declaration was signed.
In May 2024, during the visit XI in Belgrade, both presidents signed a joint statement on deepening and strengthening of the comprehensive strategic partnership and the construction of the Serbia and China community. The parties also mentioned 28 documents regarding cooperation.
