Trump is considering recognizing Somaliland as an independent state

According to Fox News, Trump referred to the case during the signing ceremony in the oval office, in which the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan and journalists participated. When asked about the possibility of recognizing Somaliland and the possible resettlement of the inhabitants of the Gaza Strip there, the president replied: “We are investigating it now … we are working on it.”
Senator Ted Cruz, a Republican from Texas, also referred to the matter. In a letter to Trump, which he published on his website, he wrote: “Somaliland stands in the face of the growing pressure on the part of opponents, largely due to its role as a partner of the United States and our allies. The Communist Party of China (KPCh) uses economic and diplomatic coercion to punish Somaliland for support for Taiwan … He strives to strengthen the bond with the United States … To achieve the greatest effect and the greatest benefit for American interests of national security, I need the status of state.
In an interview with Fox News Digital Cruz added: “There is a real chance that President Trump will recognize Somaliland as a term of office of this administration.”
Meanwhile, Somalia's government remains adamant, opposing Somaliland's independence and maintaining that he is part of its sovereign territory.
Somaliland announced a disconnection from Somalia in 1991, but it has not been recognized on the international arena today. In March, his authorities proposed to the United States access to the port and air infrastructure in Berber, strategically located on the Bay of Adeńska – on one of the key global shipping routes. This is where one of the longest runways in Africa is located, adapted to service American heavy military aircraft.
