First of all, the “friendship” with India, sealed by the face-to-face meeting (the first in the last seven years) between the Chinese President XI Jinping and the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Then, the affirmation of a “multipolar and equitable world”, writes the Italian press.
China uses the platform of the cooperation organization in Shanghai (OCS), which ended its activity in the Tianjin port city, to support-in the middle of a global geopolitical chaos-“a new economic and security order that actually provoke the United States.”
“We should support a fair and orderly multipolarization of the world, an inclusive economic globalization and promote the construction of a more fair and equitable global governance system,” said Chinese President Xi Jinping in his opening speech to over 20 world leaders. Among those who listened were Russian President Vladimir Putin and the Indian Prime Minister himself.
“We need to capitalize on the market widely to improve the level of trade and investment facilitation,” said XI, urging the community block to strengthen cooperation in areas such as energy, infrastructure, science, technology and artificial intelligence.
The Chinese president asked the organization's partners to “oppose the mentality of the Cold War and the clash between blocks” and to support multilateral commercial systems. A criticism (not so veiled) to the tariff war of US President Donald Trump, which seriously affected developing savings, such as India, whose exports were “targeted” by 50%customs duties.
This year China will offer 2 billion yuan ($ 280 million) in the form of free help, Member States and another 10 billion yuan in the form of loans. Analysts interpret this generosity as a way in which the Asian giant can impose themselves as a “responsible” player on the international stage.
As mentioned in the “final statement” approved by the leaders, “the Member States concerned, confirming the importance of creating the Bank of Development, have decided to set up and intensify the consultations on a number of aspects related to the functioning of this financial institution”.
The leaders have expressed their support for the reform of the international financial architecture, which aims to increase the representation and to strengthen the role of developing countries within the international financial institutions, including the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the International Monetary Fund. In the declaration, Member States of SCO have drawn attention to the important role of financial cooperation in promoting economic growth within the organization. At the same time, the leaders emphasized the importance of continuing the implementation of the roadmap for a gradual increase in the share of national currencies in commerce.
Of course, an attack on the US could not be missing. According to the final declaration, the countries are “opposed to unilateral coercive measures, including economic ones”. “Member States oppose unilateral coercive measures, including economic ones, which contravene the United Nations Charter and other international law norms, the rules and principles of the World Trade Organization, which harm the interests of ensuring international security, including its food and energy components, which have a negative impact on the global economy, which undermines And the achievement of the objectives of sustainable development of the United Nations ”, shows in the document.
For his part, President Putin, to whom the summit offered a new opportunity to bypass Western ostracism, said that the group revived “authentic multilateralism”, the national currencies being used more and more in mutual agreements. “This lays the political and socio -economic foundation for the formation of a new system of stability and security in Eurasia.”
As for Ukraine, the Tsar offered his own interpretation of the facts, stating that the Ukraine crisis broke out “because of the stroke instigated by the West in Kiev, in 2014”. This crisis did not appear as a result of Russia's “attack” on Ukraine, “Putin said,” but as a result of the Ukraine coup, supported and caused by the West, and subsequent attempts to use armed forces to suppress resistance in those regions of Ukraine and among those people in Ukraine who did not accept this state. ” Putin said that Russia appreciates “China's efforts and proposals, India and other strategic partners aimed at facilitating the settlement of the Ukrainian crisis”, reiterating the hope that “the agreement to the recent Russian-American summit will also go in this direction and open the way to peace in Ukraine.”
For his part, the Indian Prime Minister said that “it is necessary to find a way to end the conflict as soon as possible and to establish peace.” “This is exactly the prayer of the whole humanity,” the leader of New Delhi said, adding that India and Russia regularly exchange opinions on the conflict in Ukraine.
