Inverted mortgage – rules, amounts and popularity in Poland

The inverted mortgage market is growing. Mortgage funds paid customers in 2024 PLN 6.99 million for lifetime pensions – according to the latest report of the Association of Financial Enterprises in Poland (ZPF). This is an increase of 46.5 percent compared to the previous year. The cumulative payout value has already exceeded PLN 41.2 million.

An inverted mortgage, or a lifetime pension, is a financial model in which seniors in exchange for the transfer of property ownership to a financial institution receive a monthly benefit and a guarantee of lifetime residence in their premises. ZPF data shows that this solution enjoys growing popularity, especially among people aged 75-80 – the average age of customers in 2024 was 76.7 years.
