According to “Nowa Gazeta. Europe”, citing Wałujewa, at the airport in Cairo Russians, they surrounded the officers of special services who led them to the plane flying to Moscow. Several people tried to refuse to board, but their opposition was quickly suppressed and the reluctant was beaten.
Control after arriving in Moscow from the USA
After landing in Moscow, a team in uniforms was waiting for passengers. The deported were subjected to detailed control and questioned about staying in the US and the circumstances of the return. One person was detained, while they remained after submitting the appropriate obligations, such as the declaration of not releasing the place of residence, were released. Vladimir Osieczkin, founder of the Gulag.net organization, said that some people were interrogated for several hours and some were beaten.
Who are the deported Russians?
The deported ones were Russian citizens who for various reasons went to the United States and were placed in immigrants camps.
Some of them applied for the right of residence, but the court rejected their conclusions. Others applied for political asylum, but did not obtain permission – including the former Russian military, who arbitrarily left the unit and fled to the USA, where he lost the case in court. Among the deported was also a group of people who decided to leave the United States before issuing a court decision.
Change of policy towards Russian immigrants
According to Wałujewo, in May 2024 in the United States there was a change in the approach to the Russians crossing the border with Mexico. Earlier, the entrance from Mexico was one of the easiest ways to escape from the war. Persons for asylum received a call to court and could remain at large. However, over a year ago the situation changed – Russians applying for asylum or the right of residence began to be directed to immigrants, where they spent many months. Wałujew emphasized that some of the recently deported ones stayed in these camps even about a year.
According to “The Insider”, in recent years tens of thousands of Russians have tried to stay in the United States. After undergoing the required procedures, they could legalize their status. However, in the last six months of the presidency of Joe Biden, the chances of obtaining asylum in the US have dropped significantly. Earlier, during the time of Donald Trump, after exacerbating the migration policy, the American authorities further limited the possibility of receiving a residence permit.
